The annual undergraduate thesis defense came as scheduled. As the new crown pneumonia epidemic is raging around the world, as many as 164 students from the Department of Finance participated in the undergraduate thesis defense this year. In order to maximize the safety of teachers and students during the epidemic prevention and control period, and to ensure that all finance students successfully complete their undergraduate thesis defense and graduate successfully, the Department of Finance has responded to the call of the Business School to organize online counseling seriously. This is an online network platform to help students resolve their doubts, so that the guidance of graduation thesis does “not-stop teaching” or “not-stop school”.
Under the guidance of Director Sun Yingjun of the Department of Finance and comprehensive consideration of various factors, the Department of Finance finally decided to complete the undergraduate thesis defense on May 23 through both offline on-site defense and online “cloud defense”. After sufficient preparations such as the debugging of the previous equipment, the defense started at 8:00 on time. Each defense team strictly followed the undergraduate thesis defense process system established by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and the Department of Finance, including two links: thesis statement and question and answer defense. The offline defense team is serious and conscientious, the online “cloud defense” team was rigorous, and the online and offline defense processes were rigorous and standardized. The students combined with PPT to showed the background of the topic selection, topic selection significance, literature review, research methods, and research. In terms of conclusions, policy recommendations and other content, the teachers asked questions from various aspects such as topic design and the innovation of the thesis, and gave targeted guidance on the improper aspects of the thesis format and thesis presentation. Facing the professional questions from the teachers, the students calmly, actively thought and accepted the teachers’ opinions and suggestions with an open mind.
After the thesis defense, the excellent thesis defense immediately began. After the student’s application, the supervisor’s consent, and the defense team’s recommendation, 13 students stood out and obtained the qualifications to participate in the excellent thesis defense. Under the leadership of four senior professors from the Department of Finance, Sun Yingjun, Gao Guangfang, Fang Hua, and Xu Xuejun, all other teachers of the Department of Finance reviewed and carefully inspected the outstanding student papers according to the excellent paper application requirements.
All the teachers of the Department of Finance, from eight in the morning to nearly ten in the evening, and no one was absent. With a high degree of cohesion and professionalism, they worked together to complete the defense of the 2020 undergraduate thesis in finance, so that the 2020 finance students “extended Classes are not postponed, and graduation is not postponed”, which minimizes the impact of the epidemic on undergraduate graduates and ensures the smooth graduation of finance undergraduates.
