Zhang Xiaogang, deputy general manager of CICC, was invited by the Department of finance to give an academic report

On the morning of November 16, at the invitation of the Department of finance, Business School, Shanghai University of technology, Zhang Xiaogang, deputy general manager of China Financial Futures Exchange, came to the second conference room on the fourth floor of the Business School and gave an academic report entitled “development of China’s asset management industry and financial derivatives market” to the teachers and students of the Department of finance. The report was presided over by Professor Sun Yingjun, director of the Department of finance.

Zhang Xiaogang is currently a member of the Party committee, deputy general manager and senior economist of China Financial Futures Exchange. Since October 2015, he has been the deputy general manager of CICC. At present, he is in charge of exchange trading and settlement business, equity, interest rate, foreign exchange product development and international exchange and cooperation.

First of all, Mr. Zhang introduced the development of domestic foreign capital management industry, compared the development situation of asset management industry in different countries through detailed data, and pointed out the problems and challenges faced by China’s asset management industry in the transitional period. Then, taking stock index futures and treasury bond futures as examples, Mr. Zhang introduced the overall operation of financial derivatives in China’s market, and clarified that financial derivatives can promote the transformation of asset management industry. Among them, Mr. Zhang made a case study of ETF fund products, and vividly explained the functions and applications of stock index futures for the students present. Then, by introducing the transformation direction of various asset management industries under the new asset management regulations, Mr. Zhang proposed that China’s financial derivatives market is in the stage of rapid development, and various asset management institutions put forward higher requirements for relevant posts. Finally, he suggested that graduate students should not only learn financial theory, but also have the ability of mathematical and quantitative analysis, and improve their English level and communication ability.

In the subsequent on-site interaction, students asked Mr. Zhang their questions in the financial field, and Mr. Zhang answered them patiently. At the end of the report, Professor Sun Yingjun expressed his thanks to Mr. Zhang, who took time out of his busy schedule to share his experience.

In this academic report, deputy general manager Zhang Xiaogang introduced the current development status and transformation direction of asset management industry for students with detailed data and vivid cases, so that students of finance department can combine financial theoretical knowledge with practice, so that students can have a clearer understanding of future career planning.
