On the morning of June 26, the 3rd Hujiang International Young Scholars Forum and the Shanghai University International Young Scholars Forum (System Science Session), hosted by the Shanghai Educational Talent Exchange & Service Center and Shanghai University Talent Work Alliance and organized by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, kicked off in the Conference Hall of the Business School. Jiang Ming, Director of Shanghai Educational Talent Exchange & Service Center, Qin Zheng, Professor of the Southern University of Science and Technology, Gao Ziyou, Professor of the Beijing Jiaotong University, Yang Xiaoguang, Professor of the Tongji University, Ding Xiaodong, President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Gu Chunhua, Deputy General Secretary of the Communist Party of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, leaders of functional departments as well as party and government leaders and subject leaders of the Business School attended the opening ceremony of the forum. At the same time, Academician HAYASHI, professor of the Chubu University, and Academician Zhang Junyi, professor of the Hiroshima University, attended the forum online. The opening ceremony was presided over by Sheng Chun, Deputy General Secretary of the Communist Party and Vice President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology.
Sheng Chun first introduced the guests attending the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to the guests, experts and scholars. Afterward, Jiang Ming, Director of Shanghai Educational Talent Exchange & Service Center, delivered a speech. In his speech, he mentioned that unexpected epidemic of COVID-19 brought all nations of the world close to lockout. However, with the banded together of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the people all over the country, the social order has been restored, and academic exchanges and cooperation in colleges and universities have also been restarted rapidly. System science, as a dominant discipline for the key construction and development of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, is determined to forge ahead, has cultivated many talents and achieved a lot of outstanding achievements. Jiang also hopes that young scholars may focus on the international academic frontiers, discuss subject hot issues, and promote interdisciplinary and academic innovation. He mentioned that Shanghai will adopt a more open attitude to recruit talents from all over the world, and promote the construction of 'Five Centers' to become a desirable city of innovation, culture and ecology. He also expounded his beautiful vision that the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology could recruit more aspiring, responsible, and capable outstanding elites through this forum to accumulate energy for the prosperity and development of the university, Shanghai, and the country and whole society.
And then, President Ding Xiaodong introduced to the guests attending the opening ceremony the long history of running the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and the running situation of the university and the talent policy in recent years. He emphasized that the university has diverse policies for bringing in talents. In terms of talent training, the university has built a complete stepped support platform. And in terms of service guarantee, the university focuses on solving the key concerns of young talents, such as housing, medical care, and children's schooling. President Ding also mentioned that System Science of the university has become a key discipline in Shanghai under the care of the older generation of scientists such as Qian Xuesen and with the support of the university and the joint efforts of professors and researchers. Under the guidance of scientific and systematic promotion of reforms and planning in various fields of national governance with systematic thinking, proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping’s, the university will further implement the strategy of strengthening the university with talents, advance the development of System Science, promote the integration of disciplines, and build a systematic scientific system that serves national strategy and social development. Finally, he sincerely invites outstanding young scholars to join the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology to pursue their dreams and jointly build the Chinese dream of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation.
After the opening ceremony, Gao Ziyou, Yang Xiaoguang, Yoshitsugu Hayashi, and Zhang Junyi gave keynote speeches “Some Issues and Thoughts on the Management of Urban Traffic System”, “Intelligent Transportation System and Its Research Methodology”, “QOL-based Transformation of Transport for Carbon neutral and New normal in Post-Pandemic Era”, and “Citizen Life Behavior and Its Application”, respectively, at the main forum, which was hosted by Professor Han Yin, the leader of the transportation engineering discipline of the Business School of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. In the afternoon, three sub-forums, Management Science and Engineering Theory and Method, System Science Theory and Method, and Theory and Method of Traffic System Engineering, were held simultaneously. Young scholars from well-known universities at home and abroad, such as Arizona State University (USA), Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), Université de Fribourg (Switzerland), University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Dalian University of Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology, Tongji University, East China Normal University, Donghua University, Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, and University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, gave wonderful reports on their research content. Professors Li Chaoyang and Li Shoude from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Teng Jing from Tongji University, Professor Ji Peng from Fudan University, Professor Tang Ming from East China Normal University, and Professor Cheng Yan from East China University of Science and Technology, as guest commentators in the sub-forums, commented on the reports given by young scholars.
The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology is going to great lengths to create a high-quality academic exchange platform for outstanding scholars at home and abroad, actively promote multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary exchanges, advance young scholars to broaden their understanding and knowledge of research fields in the conflict of ideas and wisdom.
