Recently, the counselling meeting of application for Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award and Decision and Consultancy Research Achievement Award was successfully held in 506, Block A of Economics and Management Building. The purpose of this meeting is to help faculty of the school to better prepare for the application of the 15th Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award and the 13th Shanghai Decision and Consultancy Research Achievement Award so that more high-quality award applications could be granted. The meeting was presided over by HE Jianjia, vice dean of the Business School. Professor SUN Shaorong, an expert entitled for special government allowance of The State Council, gave a counselling report. More than 20 faculty, including Professor Zhang Zheng, vice dean of The Business School, DR. Yu Qianlong, Party Secretary of the Department of Accounting and deputy director of MPACC Project, attended the meeting.
First, Professor SUN Shaorong shared his experience in award application over the years. He encouraged faculty to actively apply for awards and build confidence. Secondly, he explained a few issues in preparing application in China's scientific and technological reward system, the nature of scientific research achievement reward, the factors affecting the success of application, the expression, scientific research ethics, the bottom line and other aspects. He pointed out that at present, as scientific research awards, the acknowledged national awards include the National Natural Science Award, the National Invention Award, and the National Science and Technology Progress Award. Province-level awards include the Outstanding Achievement Award of Scientific Research in Institutions of Higher Learning (Natural Sciences), the Outstanding Achievement Award of Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences), and Province-level Natural Science Awards, Invention Awards, Science and Technology Progress Awards, Philosophical and Social Science Awards, Decision Consulting Awards. The scientific research achievement award usually rewards the achievements out of the achievements. If the paper is regarded as achievement, the probability of getting reward is just a few out of one thousand, which is very difficult and requires ideological preparation. Factors for successful application can be analyzed using the Probit model. The academic level of the applicants and their affiliations both affect the outcome. Therefore, concise and effective communication is something that we work on in the application process. It pays to use objective evaluation as much as possible, use comparisons to highlight the innovativeness, provide flawless application materials, clarify the idea that science serves social development and better mankind. After the meeting, Qianlong Yu and other faculty participated in the on-site discussion in a warm atmosphere.
This meeting plays an important role in improving the application quality of high-quality awards in our school, stimulating faculty’s enthusiasm for application, and enhancing teachers' confidence in application. The school will continue to promote the guidance of award application and strive for more excellent scientific research achievements to be known and shared by human beings.
Introduction of SUN Shaorong
SUN Shaorong, Ph.D., Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, receiver of special government allowance of the State Council. He is the incumbent chairman of the Shanghai Engineering Management Association, the Party Secretary, the consultant of Behavioral Operations and Management Chapter of Operations Research Society of China, the head of postgraduate education supervision group and the vice president of senior professor association for the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. Besides, he serves as an expert of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, Shandong Province Science and Technology Progress Award, Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress Award, Fujian Province Philosophy and Social Science Award.
His research area is management system design research. He has put forward the theory of system engineering . He has presided over six NSFC projects, three of which were evaluated as outstanding by NSFC. He has won the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award twice as principal investigator. He won the second prize of outstanding achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Shanghai (book category) and the second prize of outstanding scientific research achievement (humanities and social sciences) of higher education institutions (book category) as the sole author respectively.
