The 6th “Xianke Cup” Final Match of Application and Innovation in Industrial Engineering among Shanghai Undergraduates was held in the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology

As instructed by the Education Guidance Committee in Industrial Engineering in Higher Education of Ministry of Education and Chinese Mechanical Society Industrial Engineering Chapter, this final match was jointly held by Shanghai Mechanical Engineering Society, Shanghai Gong Cheng Guan Li Society, Industrial Engineering Committee of Shanghai Mechanical Engineering Society, the Business School of USST, Shanghai Xianke Information Science and Technology Co., Ltd at USST-BS on Oct 30, to promote application of industrial engineering in various corporations across China, to establish platform for sharing application achievement in industrial engineering, to improve the competitiveness of Chinese enterprises in industrial transformation and upgrade.

 

Professor Ye Chunming, the deputy director and secretary-general of Industrial Engineering Committee of Shanghai Mechanical Engineering Society presided the opening ceremony.

 

Professor Zhang Zheng, Vice Dean of USST-BS in charge of education, Mr Jiang Zhibin, Special Appointment Professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dean of Sino-US Global Logistics Institute, Distinguished Professor of The Yangtze River Scholar Program, director of the Industrial Engineering Committee of Shanghai Mechanical Engineering Society attended the ceremony and made a brief speech. Teachers from the Department of Industrial Engineering USST-BS, faculties and students participating in the Challenge, teachers from other universities and experts from enterprises attended the ceremony.

 

Professor Ye Chunming representing the organizing committee greeted students from sister universities who will participate in the event. He also introduced current status of education reform.  He further stated that, in the situation of national education reform, Industrial Engineering Innovative Application Challenge would realize its ambition. It should innovate in the aspects of fostering students, and pave a new way for the match of this type across China.

 

Zhang Zheng, Vice Dean of USST-BS, representing the school, introduced the development of THE USST-BS. He stated that the USST-BS has achieved a lot in cultivating talents, scientific research, serving the society, and Cultural inheritance and innovation.

 

The USST-BS has held several Challenges of innovative application in industrial engineering, whereby established the communication platform for application of industrial engineering. By promoting the use of technologies and tools in industrial engineering in different business fields, it will enhance the awareness of and understanding on industrial engineering in society. It will further improve the practical ability of students of Department of Industrial Engineering and facilitate the in-depth application of industrial engineering in Shanghai.

 

 Professor Jiang Zhibin emphasized in his speech that industrial engineering should create value for the enterprises to be a valuable existence. We must pay attention to the nature of industrial engineering and build a strong foundation. Industrial transition brings up opportunities as well as risks. Only by  taking both opportunities and challenges, this 200-year-old major could adjust well to the ever-changing environment.

 

This match invited guests from diverse research institutes to be judges, including professor Ma Huimin, and directors of human resource department of Shanghai DianJi University, Yu Xiping, Vice Dean of Craft Research Institutes of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (Group), Li Wanhua, CEOs of Shanghai Xianke Information Science and Technology, professors from universities in Shanghai and experts from enterprises. The event attracted contest projects from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, Shanghai University, USST, Shanghai Maritime University, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, Shanghai Polytechnic University, Shanghai DianJi University, South China University of Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, Lanzhou University of Technology.

 

There were 24 teams wining our and entering the final.

 

The final of the match adopted oral defence to evaluate and score each project in terms of significance, methodological application and implementation effectiveness.

 

 A total of 24 teams demonstrated abundant and diversified industrial engineering cases and project. Each team analyzed the feasibility and organizational structure of their own project in the context of actual production practice. It was enthusiastic on the scene.

 

After fierce competitions, two teams won the first prize. Four teams won the second prizes, Six teams won the third prize and 12 teams won the excellence prize.

 

The 2021 Industrial Engineering Match among Shanghai University Students concluded in warm applause. But, our endeavor and efforts to promote the development of Chinese industrial engineering has not stopped yet. It is hoped that more and more universities, enterprises and students will take part in the Industrial Engineering Match among Shanghai University Students
