Lectures on Investment and Risk Management-- Organized by Master of Finance (MF) Program

Updated:2021-10-29

In order to better integrate theory with practice, Prof. SUN Yingjuan, director of the MF program, invited Dr. YE Shengming, an external postgraduate supervisor of the program and the chief risk management officer of Huaxing Securities to give a lecture on investment and risk management in Room 706, Block B of the Business School Buidling on October 26. All students of the 2021 MF program attended the lecture.

In the lecture, from the perspective of investors and financial practitioners, Dr. YE Shengming first started by emphasizing that financial investment is one of the easiest and most difficult subjects for both investors and financial institutions, especially in harvesting long-term sustainable profits. Then, taking his own experience as an example, Dr. YE Shengming proposed that there is a unity of opposition between investment and risk. Under the failed financial investment, most of time there are inherent defects of risk management in these transactions such as highly leveraged trading and investment beyond capacity. In the end, focusing on the hot and key topics in the current financial practice, Dr. YE Shengming compared the effect of quantitative investment and value investment. He mentioned that quantitative investment should pay attention to team cooperation, timely adjustment of the strategy, and long-term planning. A good quantitative investment strategy should address the issues like profit and loss generated from the same resource, the over fitting problem and being tested in the real market.

In the subsequent interactive exchange, Dr. YE Shengming and graduate students had a discussion. Dr. Ye answered the students' questions one by one, and recommended books and gave suggestions on investment and risk management. The lecture is concluded with a speech by Prof. SUN Yingjuan.
