The Delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University's School of Emergency Management Visited the Business School

On the afternoon of May 22, Wu Dan, former vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), vice president of China Society of Emergency Management, and specially appointed professor of the SJTU School of Emergency Management (SJTU-SOEM), led a delegation to visit the USSTBS. Zhao Laijun, dean of USSTBS and executive dean of the USST School of Intelligent Emergency Management (USST-SIEM), welcomed the delegation and participated in the exchange meeting.

The Meeting Site 

Zhao Laijun, on behalf of USSTBS, expressed his warm welcome to the delegation from SJTU-SOEM. He gave an overview of USSTBS and USST-SIEM in terms of history, faculty team, research areas, notable research results, laboratory construction, etc. He highlighted that USST-SIEM addresses the emergency safety and security needs of megacities. USST-SIEM collaborates with the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau as well as other institutes or organizations to conduct forward-looking, theoretical and practical innovative research on Smart Emergency Management. Additionally, efforts are being made to establish a featured Intelligent Emergency Science and Technology Innovation Base, Emergency Personnel Training Base, Emergency Skills Training Base, and Emergency Knowledge Popular Science Education Base.

Wu Dan expressed his gratitude for the reception of USSTBS. He introduced the SJTU-SOEM, including its history, faculty team, scientific research, and laboratory construction. He mentioned that the construction of the SJTU-SOEM relies on the SJTU School of International and Public Affairs. SJTU-SOEM collaborates with the Shanghai Emergency Management Bureau to carry out emergency management personnel training programs, aiming to cultivate high-quality talents for national emergency management and provide intellectual support for the country's sustainable development. He hoped that the two schools would work hand in hand to contribute to the innovation and development of the Emergency Management System with Chinese characteristics.

During the exchange meeting, the participants engaged in productive discussions on various aspects of emergency management, including discipline construction, talent training, scientific research, and laboratory construction.

Following the meeting, Wu Dan and the delegation visited the VR interactive devices and experimental platforms of the USST-SIEM Laboratory. They experienced the experimental platforms for crowd evacuation during emergencies, intelligent emergency transportation, resilience of complex systems, and intelligent safety production.
